When I was a girl,
There was nothing I loved more than a sleepover.
Every year I made my list
Of all the nice
Girls, and the
Not-so-nice but maybe they'll come
Girls, and the
If-they-come-I'll-be-more-popular
Girls.
And every year I passed out invitations and
Held my breath until
School let out and June passed and
July fifth rolled around
And my day was here.
I'm old enough that I remember them all the same—
Pizza dinner,
Tents outside, or rows of sleeping bags in the empty living room,
No sleep,
But silly stories, and ghost stories,
And even more gossip than pizza,
And finally sleep, but not too long,
Because morning light meant,
Birthday waffles with Breyer's mint chip ice cream.
The best party I have been to was a Hawaiian party with my uncle, my sister and myself. We got to hit the piñata. I hit it twice and it popped opened. My sister and I got a lot of candy. It was the best birthday party ever!
ReplyDeleteHi Khullie,
DeleteYour party sounds like it was a blast! I always wanted to have a piñata at my birthday parties, but I never got one :-(
It put a picture in my mind when you described how the piñata "Popped open". I'm wondering what shape your piñata was and what kinds of candy rained down on you and your sister. You must be pretty strong if it only took you two hits to bust it open!
i like how you craked it open
DeleteI like my birthday party because It was at the skating rink. And my hold family was ther .And I gave them a present and then they gave me my present and then I said I love you mom and then she said it back .Then a few minutes later I ate and then I went skating .Then when I was skating to fast and I fell .
ReplyDeleteHello Quran,
DeleteYour birthday story helped me to think of an idea to write about. I was having trouble brainstorming and then I remembered that I had a skating party once, too! I'm wondering if your party was a rollerskating party or an ice skating party. Mine was a rollerskating party. I like how you used dialogue to show how you felt about your mom. (I said, "I love you mom.") I felt like I was there with you and your whole family! At my party, we had cheesy pizza and the super sweet, flower covered cake everyone in my family gets for their birthdays. What did you feast on? I'm curious to know about the presents, too. Did you have a favorite? Your story makes me think you are a thoughtful and generous person....I think it was nice of you to give your guests presents.
i like your brithday you much had so much fu
DeleteI like your party to MAN.
DeleteMY BEST BIRTHDAY WHEN I HAD A MOBILE GAME TRUCK IS THAT COOL!
DeleteSo I was going to write about my rollerskating party after Quran reminded me of that memory, but then I decided to write about one of my weirdest birthday parties.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember how old I was, but one year we had a lot of snow near my birthday. My birthday is in March on the same day as a pretty famous author, but I will tell you more about that another time. When my mom asked me what I wanted to do, we decided it would be fun to have a sledding party. All the kids who came to my party brought sleds and we headed to the most humongous hill (ooh...alliteration alert!) in Forest Park. We spent hours zipping down the frosty hill and trudging back up for another ride. When all of the kids were frozen like Popsicles, my mom took us back to our house. The next thing we did was eat the traditional birthday foods of pizza and cake. We also sipped on some steamy hot chocolate to warm our insides. The final activity of the day was a project. I'm not really sure how this part happened, but all of my guests and I made little paper cups of candy treats. We glued the paper cups like the ones you make cupcakes with onto paper doilies and stuck shiny heart stickers on them. Everyone piled in the station wagons and drove to a nursing home that my mom's friend worked at. We visited with the people who lived at the nursing home and passed out our goodies. You could tell by everyone's smiling faces that we made their hearts a little happier that day. Everyone loves visitors! I know that doesn't sound like a typical birthday party, but my mom always came up with interesting ideas. It was never boring growing up with her for a mom and I think she helped me to be a good person who thinks about other people...not just myself.
DeleteFunny!
The best party I would describe would be cool and amazing. it would be super cool and fun. The music would be a little bit loud. I would invite nice people. It would be beautiful and colorful with bright colors. We would drink punch out of tea It would be a private party. I would love it.
